Tucker, James Fishback Talk Running for Florida Governor, Free Speech
Issue #409 | Because he's awesome
Hello Friends & Happy Friday.
The great state of Florida has been truly blessed to have Ron DeSantis running the show as Governor lo these many years. But alas, he can’t be Governor forever. It’s not to say every little thing he has done/is doing is A+, but when you consider the folks he defeated for his first and second term… I am beyond grateful he is the Governor.
Someone — pray it’s a Republican — is going to have big shoes to fill to keep the Sunshine State rolling merrily along.
Enter James Fishback. I admit to not knowing much about him. He’s a 30-year-old investor. He’s produced campaign videos on social media promoting his vision for the state. He’s not technically anti-DeSantis, but he definitely has a different set of ideas on how to manage Florida.
He takes a hard stance against immigration, even legal immigration, promotes an ‘America First’ platform, and plans to keep fighting the culture wars that have defined DeSantis' tenure.
He’s certainly making waves across Florida.
Fishback offers a genuine perspective, speaking freely and confidently about a host of important topics — to Florida, to the country. Whether or not he can navigate his way through the primary, win a general election, and then drop his luggage inside the Governor’s Mansion is anyone’s guess. But I am attracted to the candor, the ideas, and the positivity.
Tucker closes the first, full week of January with an interesting chat with Fishback, happy to tout his bid for Florida governor, positioning himself as a populist rebel against the DeSantis establishment.
The conversation takes turns on free speech and foreign policy. Fishback hammers DeSantis, Randy Fine, and other Florida Republicans for anti‑speech laws that punish criticism of Israel and other sacred‑cow issues, arguing that the right has drifted into the same censorious mindset it used to fight.
From there, Tucker and Fishback focus on Byron Donalds and Ben Shapiro as symbols of a donor‑driven, identity‑obsessed conservative class that talks populism but polices dissent, especially from white, Christian men who push back on the new orthodoxy.
Fishback then offers his views on why he thinks ‘America Last’ globalism dominates the GOP, identity politics, and whether a candidate running hard on civil liberties, economic nationalism, and open defiance of party gatekeepers can actually win in Florida.
